Widener Nursing expands pro bono health care services with the opening of two new community clinics
Chester, Pa. – Widener University’s School of Nursing is excited to announce that it has partnered with community organizations to expand its community health care services to additional clinic locations in Chester.
The Widener Community Nursing Clinic at CityTeam now offers patient care at the Chester Senior Center. Additionally, the School of Nursing, in partnership with the Episcopal Diocese, has opened a clinic – the Wellness Center at St. Paul’s in Chester.
“We are thrilled to broaden our service locations with the opening of two new community clinics,” said Ellen Boyda, clinic director who oversees the CityTeam and Chester Senior Center clinics. “By expanding our locations, we are able to fulfill our mission of offering affordable and accessible care to individuals and families throughout the community.”
“Thank you to the Episcopal Diocese for their partnership to make the Wellness Center at St. Paul’s a new vital health care resource for the community,” said Paula Gray, clinical associate professor and director of the Wellness Center. “At a time when access to health care and personal wellness are paramount, this clinic will enable to us to work with members of the community and care for those most in need.”
The new locations are an extension of the Widener Community Nursing Clinic at CityTeam, the university’s first local nursing clinic that opened in 2011. Run by Widener nursing faculty, alumni and students, the clinic provides accessible, reliable, high-quality health care to uninsured and underinsured members of the community as well as hands-on patient care experiences for undergraduate and graduate students. In 2020 and 2021, the clinic received a Gold Rating from the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics Quality Standards Program for its continued delivery of quality care.
Services provided at the clinics include physical examinations, episodic and chronic medical care, health promotion and illness prevention, referrals to support groups and other needed resources, essential education programs and individual patient education.
