Barron Lacy and his 9th Street Environmental Youth Corp made a positive impact on the city today by planting 14 trees in three different neighborhoods. I had the opportunity to meet up with them on 12th and Clover Lane where they were joined by members of the Chester Shade Tree Commission, CRC Watersheds Organization, Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, and a Chester business owner. It was inspiring to see young people take an active role in tree tending, and it’s exciting to think about the long-term impact these trees will have on the community. As the trees mature, the youth who participated in the planting will be able to witness firsthand the shade and beauty they have brought to the city blocks of Chester.
