CHESTER, PA – Chester Community Charter School (CCCS) is proudly partnering with Chester-born NBA basketball player Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and his Foundation to implement the C.H.A.P Urban Expressions after-school program. The program will feature mindfulness and wellness initiatives, teaching students useful strategies and techniques to cultivate emotion and attention regulation skills. The program will aim to help students achieve a solid mental foundation, allowing them to more readily engage in both social-emotional and academic learning.

C.H.A.P stands for “Calm Humble and Patient,” and has been a philosophy of Hollis-Jefferson’s since his early days in basketball.

“Now more than ever, our city needs hope,” said Rondae Hollis-Jefferson. “Our Urban Expressions after-school program will provide kids the right environment to have fun, learn, grow, and express themselves, all while showing respect and love. They will learn to approach everyday life by being C.H.A.P – calm, humble, and patient. We want to be the foundation for any child that needs it. This will not only set them up for success, but their families as well.”

Additionally, the Urban Expressions after-school program will offer a segment where students will participate in open forum discussions about topics and issues that matter to them, such as education, hobbies, community involvement, and current and world events. With the assistance of their mentors, students will also be able to explore ways to improve their lives.

“Chester Community Charter School is very fortunate to begin a partnership with the Rondae Hollis-Jefferson Foundation,” said Dr. David E. Clark, Jr, CEO of CCCS. “Rondae was born and raised in the city of Chester, and although he has exceptional basketball skills, his greatest gift is his compassion for the city of Chester and its youth. He is the epitome of a successful person not forgetting where he came from and giving back to his community. This new program will provide our students with exceptional opportunities to address mental health, emotional stability, and overall wellness.”

The C.H.A.P Urban Expressions after-school program will currently be offered to Chester Community Charter School students in grades 3-5. More programs for students in other grades will be offered at a later date.
