At 10am today in front of the Delaware County Court House in Media, the Office of the Public Defender, Senator Anthony Williams and Representative Mike Zabel will hold a joint press conference with the whistleblowers behind the case which started on March 12, 2021 when the Delaware County Office of the Public Defender sent a letter along with four whistleblower affidavits to multiple government officials detailing allegations of abuse at the Delaware County Juvenile Detention Center (DCJDC).

In response, the President Judge of the Court of Common Pleas immediately shut down the court run facility, transferred or released the children held there and called for a full investigation into the allegations. The allegations of abuse at the DCJDC were uncovered after similar allegations of abuse at multiple juvenile detention facilities in Pennsylvania, most recently Deveraux and Glen Mills School.

Members of the statewide, bipartisan Juvenile Justice Task Force are currently working on legislative and policy proposal to reform the juvenile justice system and ensure that these abuses do not happen to our children again.

Christopher Welsh, the Director of the Delaware County Office of the Public Defender will issue his first public statement since his office uncovered the alleged abuse and the need for reform of the juvenile justice system.

Nathan Orians, one of the four whistleblowers, will speak about his experience working at the DCJDC, how it has impacted his life and what can be done to prevent abuse like this in the future.

Senator Anthony Williams and Representative Mike Zabel will speak about the work of the Juvenile Justice Task Force and the statewide efforts to reform the juvenile justice system and prevent allegations of abuse at juvenile detention centers in Pennsylvania.
