The Boys & Girls Club of Chester had their end-of-year celebration yesterday rewarding the youth who spend their after school time doing homework and enjoying activities this year.

First, they gathered in the big room to hand out the rewards, receive some entertainment, before my favorite part of the evening, the food.

A couple community awards were given out, one to Kent Drake, Jr, owner of Just Pizza, and the other to Stefan Roots, Publisher of Chester Matters. The only difference between the two awards was Kent knew he was getting his. I was floating around taking photos when a staffer told me I may want to pay attention to what they’re saying. With a camera around my neck, I received my plague. Thanks y’all.

Next, they went into the gym where it was set up with a couple moon bounces, and a variety of games spread out all around.

The Boys & Girls Club of Chester is an icon in our city. There’s never been a time when it’s been more important to have a safe haven for our children. And, there probably has never been a time where The Club has had a more experienced executive team who has assembled a great staff of leaders keeping The Club well supplied, maintained, financed and set with new and innovative programming.

BGCCAwards48.jpgIt takes a lot to keep all those kids in line everyday. You won’t find a better group of committed adults serving so many of our children outside of school building. The tradition of The Club lives on.
