The 15-year-old who shot another teen after a fist fight is probably going to jail with the adults. That’s an easy call here in Delaware County when gun violence is involved.

For some reason, the juvenile justice system still haven’t figured out how to deal with these kids and their guns besides throwing them in the adult system. If he knocked him out with his fist and the guy hit his head and died, I wonder if his punch would be enough to charge him as an adult? Same crime. Same result. Different tool.

Sadly, the justice system only has one tool for kids with guns, adult jail. But around here, even the places designed to reform kids in a juvenile setting fail the juvenile, too.

Bad kids are being sent away in droves to spend their final developmental years in jail and prison. Is that the best we can do for them?
