ALHjr Foundation is hosting its 2nd Annual Hoop-A-Thon, a Basketball Tournament Fundraiser on Saturday, March 16, from 10:30pm- 3:30pm at the Widener University Field House.
This event is special, because it is planned and operated by RISE Students (Responsibility, Integrity, Service, and Excellence). These 9th and 10th graders, from various Chester high schools work as a team to plan this event as a fundraiser for a Spring Leadership Retreat.
The Hoop-A-Thon is a Round-Robin tournament for 10 teams of 4 vs. 4. Players can be ages 14-24 and should be from the Chester community.
We also hope that many people from the community come out to support their friends, families and neighbors in the tournament. There will be a DJ, concessions, local vendors, entertainment and other surprises, for players and spectators throughout the day.
RISE Program students have spent the last 3 months planning this community event, as part of their course curriculum. They have applied a variety of RISE skills, such as: leadership and collaboration, planning and prioritizing, marketing, budget management, recruiting and advocacy, fundraising, and more.
Players can still register on the Andrew L. Hicks, Jr. Foundation website. We hope that Chester comes out to cheer us on!
