Bethlehem Steel FC will play this season at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester, Pa.,the home of their parent club the Philadelphia Union. Of course, the Union is a Major League Soccer team and Bethlehem Steel FC (football club) is a member of the United Soccer League which is essentially a player development league.
Bethlehem Steel FC used to play at Lehigh University’s Goodman Stadium before the USL insist all teams play on a field that has lights.
It’s going to be interesting to see how many folks travel down to Chester from Lehigh Valley, Bethlehem, and Allentown to watch The Steel. They only drew about 2500 fans last year playing close to their fan base. I imagine attendance will be cut in half or more as these guys have no fan base around here.
Seeing 1000 people in a 18,000 seat stadium is going to be like attending a Temple Football game at Lincoln Financial Field – empty.
Hopefully the tickets will be cheap (or free) and some local high school soccer programs and other soccer enthusiast will be encouraged to come and check out the next round of young United States soccer talent.
