The partial government shutdown would have shutdown Food Stamps in February if it wasn’t for some level heads in D.C. making a way for February benefits to be distributed early – January 18 for Pennsylvanians.
Now that the shutdown is over, the March benefits will be distributed anywhere from the 1st to 14th of March, depending on the last digit of your case number.
That means a person who got that extra bump in bennys on January 18 may have to wait as long as March 14th – 54 days – before their ‘green card’ is recharged.
Studies (and real life) has proved that most recipients who solely depend on their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to obtain food almost always run out of food before the end of the month on a normal 30 day cycle. The extra money received in January was welcome but how many people do you think budgeted the extra money to only spend in February? Depending on where you fall in the pecking order, the next bit of money for food could be a long ways away.
There’s expected to be a rush on food pantries and other feeding outlets and ministries. If a friend or relative comes knocking on your door for a few bucks or a hot meal, consider the situation and lend a helping hand.
I am sure it will be ok for the person receiving these benefits who use the program wisely. The people who are in stores buying sandwiches and candy etc will probably run short. Be responsible and always be looking to find work. The program is to help you get on your feet it is not a crutch. Lots of jobs out there and I pray everyone can find one.
For those who must rely on food stamps as their only means to buy food it’s never enough money. There are millions of working families receiving food stamps. Getting a job isn’t the solution for many.
It is a soloution it is self pride…
But to add to that I agree that working families still may need assistance. I am talking about the abuse of system. It’s there for people who are working hard to provide not people who just want to collect what ever they can.
AND STOP SELLING THEM TO BUY DRUGS. ETC. AND LETTING YOUR GROWN CHILDREN EAT UP A MONTH’S WORTH OF FOOD IN A WEEK FILLING THEIR “MUNCHIES” CRAVINGS.
Try to pretend there are people who depend on food stamps to feed their family. If you can’t, spend a month eating on $3 a day like millions try to do who receive stamps.
Missing the point. It’s there to assist people who need it. Should not be a life long entitlement.
Making your own point. This post concerns the people who need it.
I know many people who consider it a “life long entitlement.” I overheard a teenage girl pushing TWO baby strollers in the Chester 7-11 tell her mother “I ain’t never gonna’ get a job! I’m just going to keep getting paid to have babies!” I wanted to VOMIT. THIS is how the Chester community is raising its children?? Generation after Generation?? And it’s society’s fault?? PLEASE. Children are TAUGHT how to play the system, and TAUGHT that it is NORMAL not to have a father in the house to support them. This is WHY some are hostile towards food stamp recipients, though I know that many recipients are honest and actually need them, many are not.
Fine. So save your life long entitlement comments for when I write a post on that.
