Being so close to Philadelphia, Chester is locked into the Philly terrestrial radio bandwidth. Us old folks remember 1590 am bringing some local flavor out of their studios in Aston, and more recently WDNR at Widener University brought us good local broadcasting with Master Blaster (Walter Jay) bringing the music and Jay Da Kid (Jay Sutton) bringing the comic approach to news and pop culture.

Internet radio has taken off in Chester in a big way as listeners tune in on their SmartPhones straight from the sites or through their social media feeds.

bEsTcOrE Radio came out a few years ago with some great programing but is currently on hold as they regroup (www.bestcoreradio.com). The newest player is CMP Radio (www.cmpradio.net) who is going strong with several talk shows throughout the week and music playing 24 hours a day when talks shows aren’t on. Download their app or listen on TuneIn. Although not broadcasting from Chester, an Internet gospel station serves Chester. Check out Reach Gospel Radio here (reachgospelradio.com).

I was invited to join the ‘Good Brotha Talk’ show on Sunday hosted by Marvin Payne and Emmanuel E-u Gilbert with DJ Chuck B slinging the sound effects. We had a fun and informative talk on topics involving leadership in Chester; the relevance of complying when stopped by police; a chat on the significance of the TV show ‘Power’ and its season opening episode; the role of community journalism, and more. Viewers chimed in with questions through Facebook to join the discussion.

CMP stands for Cultivating Mature Positivity and all the talk shows reflect just that. Check out the show times on their site and join the new revolution of Internet radio right on your SmartPhone, right from your backyard.
