I couldn’t help but to notice how similar the Philadelphia Daily News columnist mimicked my headline in his first paragraph in today’s paper…
I’m not talking about either Kate Spade or Anthony Bourdain (although Bourdain is oddly relevant … stay with me on this.) This is about Marco Antonio Muñoz, a 39-year-old Honduran who died all alone last month in a rural Texas jail cell, with an item of clothing around his neck and a small pool of blood on a padded floor.

In recent weeks, the personal cruelty of Donald Trump has been translated into official United States policy — and the human toll is staggering. The Intercept, which has done some strong reporting on the growing moral crisis at the border, did the math and calculated that at least 1,358 children — and possibly closer to 1,500 to 2,000 — have already been separated from their parents in only the first month or so of the administration’s “zero-tolerance” scheme. In addition, the flood of asylum-seekers suddenly facing criminal prosecution has led to mass trials that present a dystopian nightmare view of modern America.

Predictably, the comments accompanying Bunch’s editorial are there to shout him down. His plea to “write your congressman”, I already did a decade ago when Sestak (a Democrat) was in office, to no avail. For a decade, I’ve watched how “friends” and colleagues forwarded bile-soaked screed forwarded to them from European neo-Nazi sites, and apparently some of it’s sticking to us like asphalt patch on the knees of my jeans.
