After putting my heart and soul in the post on Glen Mills v Chester High baseball, I looked forward to reading a recap, or at least a final score, in today’s paper. What was written was ‘No Report.’

In a perfect world, there would be a Daily Times reporter covering the game and writing a recap like it was a Phillies game. We know that’s a pipe dream because there are many high school baseball games and only few reporters. The paper depends on teams to email, fax, or call in the game results.

You’d think that small task would be automatic. You’d think schools would want you to know how their team performed. You’d think they’d be embarrassed having a ‘No Report’ next to their school’s name.

That’s why I love the recaps I receive from Terry Thomas after every Chester High basketball game. I post every one and mix in some of my photos to spice it up. The feedback I get from those recaps is precious and comes from all over the country from people who love to follow Chester basketball.

If I had my way, I’d cover all youth and school sports including JV, freshman, girls, and those sports that get little coverage like track meets, cross country, volleyball, etc. I’d even like to cover the bar dart and billiard league, church bowling leagues, Biddy, AAU, the Chester Panthers, Chester Township Cougars, The Brothers softball team, the Jackie Robinson little league teams and the over 35 and over 50 basketball leagues. Obviously, I couldn’t show up to every game, but they could all submit their result.

Not long ago, I spent some time talking to the Daily Times sports staff in their office and they shared how frequently schools fail to report their game results. I was shocked.

Just to bring it home, look at who else didn’t report games to the Daily Times yesterday as listed in today’s paper…

Boy’s Lacrosse – Upper Darby at Ridley
Girl’s Lacrosse – Ridley at Upper Darby
Girl’s Track – Marple Newtown, Penncrest at Radnor
Boy’s Tennis – Cardinal O’Hara at Springfield & W.C. East at Garnet Valley
Boy’s Volleyball – Haverford High at Archbishop Wood
Girl’s Golf – Notre Dame at SCHA

This is a problem.
