Pennsylvania — Did you know that 3,383 drug-related overdose deaths were reported in Pennsylvania in 2015? Or that one in five teens has abused prescription drugs? Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whalen, Chester County District Attorney Thomas P. Hogan, and Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele are proud to announce the Regional NOPE (Narcotics Overdose Prevention and Education) Volunteer Training Certification.  NOPE is actively seeking volunteers to participate in the NOPE program, including members from law enforcement agencies, who can articulate to students the dangers of drug abuse in relation to their investigations; members of the judicial system, who can articulate the legal aspects of drug abuse; treatment and mental health care providers; families and friends who have lost loved ones to drug overdose deaths as well as any county agency or community member that can assist us in this endeavor.

NOPE Task Force is a non-profit 501c-3 organization, and the cornerstone of NOPE’s mission is the personal, high impact presentation delivered to middle and high school students throughout the school year. The presentations are purposefully blunt and evoke powerful emotions. The response from students, parents and teachers has been overwhelmingly positive. Many students seek guidance after the presentation for themselves or to get help for their friends. In the 2014-2015 school year, our volunteers carried life-saving messages to over 1,890 community members and 31,195 middle and high school students throughout 23 Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery County School Districts!

NOPE will be holding their Regional Volunteer Training Certification on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 (9:00AM-12:00PM) at Holcomb Behavioral Health Systems (Exton Office) located at 467 Creamery Way Exton, PA 19341. Any volunteer interested in becoming certified must also attend two of the live student presentations taking place on February 15th at Springfield Township Middle School from 12:00-1:00PM, February 16th at Penn Wood High School from 12:13-1:07PM or 1:10-2:05PM, February 28th at Ridley Middle School from 10:00-11:00AM or 11:15-12:15PM, February 22nd at Oxford Area High School from 9:00-10:00AM, or March 15th at Bishop Shanahan High School from 8:35-9:35AM.
