With its foundation in Rugby-inspired tackling, the Atavus Tackling System of shoulder-leveraged tackling techniques removes the head as far away as possible from the impact area and therefore reduces the risk of injury at the point of contact. This system, which has been embraced with proven results by marque NFL, NCAA, and High School football programs across the land, provides coaches with year-round qualitative and other insights for better practice and game day preparation. Atavus begins with on-field, Rugby-inspired, tackling techniques, drills and plans which are player, position and unit centered leading to more effective and safer tackling. The company’s proprietary data analytics system then provides coaches with easy to access, real-time customizable reporting and performance optimization recommendations.
A Rugby-inspired tackling system has been embraced by top high school, college and professional coaches in both football and rugby across the United States, including Pete Carroll of the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks, as well as notable college football coaches, and Atavus partners at the University of Washington, Ohio State, the University of Nebraska and Rutgers. During the 2015 college season, Atavus worked with defensive coaches at the Washington and Ohio State, where both teams saw dramatic improvements, with the Buckeyes becoming the nation’s #2 ranked defense overall in Points Scored and the Huskies becoming the #1 defense in the entire Pac-12.
